Welcome to VEI (the "App"), an AI-powered language learning and personal assistant application. We are deeply committed to protecting your privacy. VEI is designed with an "anonymous by default" architecture. We do not require you to register with personal details (such as your name, phone number, or personal email) to use the core features of the App, ensuring that your learning journey remains entirely private.

2. Information Collection and Use

To deliver its features, the App requests permission to access certain device capabilities. All data processed through these permissions is handled securely:

  • Camera: Used on-device for the VEI Scan module to take photos of text, signs, or objects. The photos are processed immediately to extract text or analyze content via AI, and are never saved or stored on our servers.
  • Microphone: Used for voice input in the VEI Translate and VEI Språk modules to convert your speech to text and analyze pronunciation. Audio recordings are processed on-the-fly and are not stored.
  • Location: Used on-device for the VEI City module to provide relevant local information based on your current city or municipality. Your precise location coordinates are never tracked or stored.
  • Local Storage & IndexedDB: Your learning progress, vocabulary, settings, and history are stored entirely on your device. We do not sync this data to a central cloud database unless you explicitly choose to back it up.

3. Third-Party Services

The App utilizes secure third-party APIs (such as OpenAI and Whisper) to provide AI-powered translation, text analysis, and conversational practice. No personal identifiers (like your name or device ID) are sent to these third parties. The data sent consists solely of the text or audio query required to generate the AI response.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

Since your learning data is stored locally on your device, you have absolute control over it. You can delete all your data, settings, and progress at any time by:

  • Using the "Reset Progress" option in the App's settings panel.
  • Clearing the App's storage/cache in your Android system settings.
  • Uninstalling the App from your device.

5. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect data transmitted between the App and our backend server. Because we do not collect personal identifiers, your data cannot be linked back to you in the event of any security incident.

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
